Mr.Mehmet Cansun

On November 1, 1905, in a classroom of a noble Istanbul high school, events were taking place which eventually changed Turkish sports forever.

The seed for the foundation of the Galatasaray Sports Club was planted inside the Galatasaray-I Sultanisi High School by its own pupils. In addition to Ali Sami, who was the driving force behind the clubs foundation, Asim Tevfik, Emin Bulent, Bekir Sitki, Resat Sirvani, Celal Ibrahim, Tahsin Nihat, Abidin Daver and Refik Cevdet were involved in the decision to organize such a club.

The Club was first known as the Galatasaray Terbiye-i Bedeniye Club. According to Ali Sami, their aim was "To play as a team like the English, to have a name associated with distinct colors and to beat all other non-Turkish teams".

At first there were numerous suggestions for the clubs name including Gloria(Glory) and Audace (Courage). However, the founders decided to name theclub Galatasaray.

It is important to note that Galatasaray High School, where the red and yellow team emerged, continues to serve an important role in Turkish education to this day. The institution has long been associated with excellence in education and one of highest standards of civic pride in Turkey.

In all their history, they were a very well reputated club, and surely, the best Turkish football club ever, no other teams have developed so many good players to the Turkish football as Galatasaray.

Cimbom are the club with most domestic titles including 13 league titles and 12 FA Cup trophies. They are the best know Turkish club outside Turkey because their impressive European appearances, in 1988 Galatasaray had the greatest moment in their history by reaching the semifinals of UEFA Champions League after eliminate Neuchatel Xamax, Rapid Vienna and Monaco, only being eliminated by Steaua Bucharest, no other Turkish club have reached this glory.

In 1988 too, Galatasaray had the European Golden Boot, an award given to the European Top Goalscorer Tanju Çolak, a good striker who had his career damaged by criminal scandals, and made some good seasons at Fenerbahçe after being sacked by Galatasaray because his indiscipline, plus in that year the club had other great players like Ugur Tutuneker and Prekazi, a  Yugoslav guy bought from Red Star Belgrade, former Monaco Goalkeeper Ettori still can't forget the goal Prekazi scored from 40 yards to bottom corner. It was really really an unforgettable team!

The strength of Galatasaray in the European cups is the Ali Sami Yen stadium, "The Hell", where they have an intimidating atmosphere to their opponents, when full crowded, the stadium is an authentic hell, it´s a loved place to all the supporters, who will never forget the glory moments which Galatasaray have there.

In the 90's Galatasaray didn´t stop to produce exceptional guys to the southern european football. The club ever counts with great players in their roster in their history, aswell in the 90's, when the club had players like Hagi, Popescu, Filipescu, Van Gobbel,Adrian Ilie, Dean Saunders,Kubilay Turkyilmaz,Kosecki, some of the greatest Galatasaray's international stars, and Turkish players like Tugay, Arif, Okan,Bulent,Hakan Unsal,Suat and of course Hakan Sukur...

And in 2000 history was changed,Galatasaray win UEFA Cup after beating Arsenal and wrote history

Finally, the Turkish people have no doubt about a thing:
